Fitness Friday: Cooler Cleanse.

So, it’s 2013. How many of us have made resolutions to be ‘healthier’ or more fit? Have any of you done a cleanse or are looking to do one this year? I’d love to hear about your experience or know more about what you’re expecting if you’re planning on doing your first one in 2013!

For the last 10 years or so, I’ve been one of those people who likes to ‘cleanse’ or ‘detox’ every 4 to 5 months. I’m also one of those people who read about different methodologies surrounding cleanses and then I give the ones that sound interesting a shot.

The very first cleanse I did was the ever-so-famous Master Cleanse. It has been around for years but probably made most famous by Beyonce a few years ago. I tried to do it for 10 days before I went to ER after passing out. There were many lessons learned in those (almost) 10 days, but the biggest takeaway for me was that I would never do another cleanse that didn’t involve some form of food. It just wasn’t the best choice for me.

Then I came across Cooler Cleanse which is a program that Salma Hayek uses (and helped launch). Now, I’ve been green smoothie-ing for about 6 months now. It has been a great alternative to juicing since I don’t have a juice, but I’ve always wondered if juicing would give me “better” results.

I did the 5-day cleanse which did NOT include food, but unlike the Master Cleanse, it involved 6 different juices per day that used pounds and pounds of fresh squeezed fruits and vegetables, so I knew they were jam-packed with nutrients. (Versus the lemon juice, maple syrup, water, and cayenne pepper concoction the Master Cleanse revolved around.)

  • It is SUPER convenient. Juices come to your door.
  • Juices are certified organic.
  • Juices last 3 days. (For the 5-day cleanse, you get a second delivery on the 3rd day.)
  • Some juices are DELICIOUS.
  • Outside of specific cravings, I was not actually hungry.
  • My skin looked amazing afterwards.
  • I felt GREAT afterwards.

  • It is an investment. I paid almost $500, but to be fair, I thought it was worth it.
  • There was no food, or chewing.
  • Some juices are GROSS. (The ones, of course, that are best for you!)

I am extremely happy that I finally did the Cooler Cleanse. I’d been wanting to do it for a long time but never found a good time to randomly spend that kind of money, but once drunken night, I bit the bullet and am glad I did. ;)

Would I do it again? Probably not. Why? Well, I still prefer the 9-day Isagenix program which I’ll review at another point in time, but essentially, of all the cleanses I’ve tried, it’s the one that let’s me eat and yet gives me the best results. I will, however, be making it a point to stick to the green smoothies. Seeing how my body and skin reacted to all those natural vitamins and nutrients really enforced the importance of fresh fruits and vegetables… and I’m not afraid to admit it, but I am a lot more picky about the fruits and vegetables I eat versus the ones I throw in my blender!

Have you tried BluePrint Cleanse? They’ve been around for years, but I could never “stomach” the cost (yes, pun intended).

I haven’t yet! I’ve read about it and was teetering between that one and Cooler Cleanse when I made the purchase, but their juices are heavier on the ‘green’ side, whereas Cooler Cleanse had a better variety including a beet & fruit juice, a lemonade, and an almond milk. I just figured I had a better chance of actually finishing the cleanse with the juices that sounded like they tasted better. Haha.
