It’s been a while since I’ve written a Favorites post. The last one I wrote was back in February, so I’m pretty sure I’m overdue for one. Plus, it’s always fun to write about my favorites, plus watch on YouTube or read about other’s monthly favs, too!
I had quite a bit of favorites for the month of May, but I’m going to keep it short and sweet with my 6 favorites products. My first three are in the skincare department.
During the end of April, I received a huge PR box full of Kiehl’s product to try in anticipation of their Grand Opening at Washington Square Mall in Tigard, Oregon. I also had the opportunity to interview Kiehl’s CEO Chris Salgardo, unfortunately there was a last minute change in his schedule so he couldn’t make it into town. It would have been so amazing to actually pick his brain about Kiehl’s and how they operate. At any rate, the huge box I received contained many full sized products from there! I ended up giving away two of the products that were for men to one of my friends and kept the rest. Haha, I’m so greedy – I also haven’t had the chance to try all of the products they sent me, but I just had to add two of them to my May favorite list.
Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado in 0.5 oz – this came just in time! I ran out of my Lancome Progres Eye Cream and was looking for a good, affordable alternative when this baby showed up! All I have to say is that I am a total fan and have been using this daily! It’s very hydrating formulation using Avocado Oil and Shea Butter to prevent dehydration. It’s also only $28.50, which is about a 1/3 in price compared to Lancome Progres Eye Cream. I also don’t have to use a lot of this cream so 0.5 oz is a lot of product for that price.
Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate in 1.7 fl. oz. – MOVE OVER RETINOL! If you’ve been with me for a while, then you’ll know that I
am was a huge fan of retinol for it’s acne management and pore shrinking properties. The problem with retinol is that it can be irritating for the first two weeks of use before your skin adjusts – especially if you’re switching different retinol brands. It’s also very drying if you don’t use a strong enough moisturizer. On top of that, I had stopped using retinol for a while and was waiting to go back one of Olay’s retinol formulated products, because my forehead was starting to break out in little acne bumps again – until I received this Kiehl’s anti-wrinkle treatment.
It has 10.5% Pure Vitamin C, it’s claim to fame, “Clinically-Demonstrated (full panel – 8-week multi-ethic study) visibly decrease the appearance of lines and winkles including brow, forehead, marionette and lip lines while improving skin firmness, texture and the appearance of pores.” I haven’t noticed a reduction in visible appearance of lines, especially between the brow; however, my forehead has dramatically cleared up. It’s smooth as hell. Whenever I do get a pimple (normally a cystic acne around the chin area) it keeps it relatively small! Some just goes away without turning into a giant, disgusting whitehead about to launch pus off your face.
The only thing is that I’ve already used half the bottle and it’s only June 1st. It retails for $60 for 1.7 fl. oz. You can get also getting in a larger size if you don’t mind splurging more moolah for it – plus you’re getting more for the cost than a smaller bottle. But ouch! I’m just going to be so sad when this bottle is empty by the end of June. Sad face.
Anavita Moisturizing Anti-Wrinkle Cream in 1.7 fl. oz. – This is another PR product that I have come to enjoy during May! I actually think it compliments Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate very well. I have been using this hydrating cream daily, night and day! I am loving the results. I am also going to talk more about this cream in a later post with a giveaway from Anavita!
Moving on to cosmetics, because a May Fav post shouldn’t be without some makeup! I have been meaning to talk more on some of these products that I have been using, but I’m failing miserably.
Avon Extra Lasting Liquid Foundation in 1 fl. oz. – If you haven’t noticed already, I’m like an on and off Avon Rep, haha. And like any good rep, one should try their products – at least the ones that appeal to them and this foundation appealed to me! I have actually been using this for a while now and I simply love the formula. It applies on smooth and lasts all day – I use a sponge blender or my fingers. It has a medium to full coverage, it looks natural and not caky, plus it’s affordable to boot retailing at $12.50 – plus there are the occasional special offers and deep discounts. I have the one in creamy natural. This actually made my February list – oops – what can I say, I really love this foundation!
The only flaw is that it carries an SPF of 12, which is kind of an odd number. But if you already use a moisturizer with SPF in the morning then the low and odd SPF number shouldn’t be an issue.
Benefit Cosmetics Fine-One-One in 0.28 oz stick – I’ve actually had this for a very long time and decided to revisit it. It can be used on your cheeks or lips, but I often find it weird using the same stick on either cheeks or lips for that germ factor. I’m weird. It’s my thing. Anyhoo – This is so easy to use! Glide it on your cheeks and you can blend it in with your fingers, brush, or makeup sponge. I prefer using my fingers and pat the product around my cheeks. It leaves a beautiful creamy peachy pink color with a bit of highlight at the top of your cheek bone. It retails for $30.
Too Faced Soul Mates Blushing Bronzer in 0.6 oz – This is going to be terrible, but the only reason why I purchased this was because of the name: Carrie & Big. Call me a romantic or just a ginormous fan of SATC, but I just had to have it! I actually looked at Rachel and Ross, but that bronzer seemed too dark for me and I’m not a huge Friends fan anyways (don’t hate!). I love the color duo of Carrie & Big, it’s a lighter color bronzer and the blush is in coral. It goes on smooth and blends in well. I especially love the size of this heart-shaped case and it’s giant heart-shaped mirror inside. It currently retails for $34, but you can probably wait to get it on sale – since Too Faced seem to always send out promotions. You also receive free shipping on orders over $50.
These are my favorite products for May. Really, there were a lot more favorites, especially from Kiehl’s but I’m also still testing them out and if I still like them by the end of June, then they might make the list.
